Italian Youth Two Week--Latin Focus
Description
Concordia Language Villages Italian
“Lacus Silvae” Latin Program

Just about everybody knows that Latin is the language of the Romans, and that it is the origin of the Italian language, alongside a myriad of other languages spoken around the globe. They may even know that 50 to 60% of English vocabulary, especially in law and the scientific
world, comes from Latin or Ancient Greek. But when most people think of Latin they have heard one thing: It's dead.

Not so here at Concordia Language Villages! At the inaugural session of Lacus Silvae (Lake of the Woods) you'll get to experience the Latin language as a living, spoken, language alongside fellow campers enrolled in Lago del Bosco (the Italian language village) for two weeks. Each day you'll eat, play, nap, and experience village life (and free time!) with your fellow villagers learning Italian. But you'll also be a member of an exclusive club: The Vicani Latini (Latin Villagers). Our Vicani Latini will have 3 periods each day where they will be taught the basics needed to speak Latin the way people have done since Ancient Rome was young. They will also participate in both joint (Italian & Latin) and separate (Latin only) evening programs where they will not only learn about Ancient Roman and Italian culture, but also how Latin was, and continues to be used, in countries, and cultures, around the world up to the present day. So come, drink in the experience of not one but TWO world languages for the price of one! No experience speaking Latin or Italian is required to participate in this program.
