Almost all Ballibay staff members are also cabin counselors. Cabin counselors live with at least one other staff member and 10-14 campers in a cabin with toilets, hot water and electricity.

Cabin counselors are responsible for the cleanliness and organization of their cabin, and the safety, behavior and punctuality of the campers who live there. Ballibay is an activity-oriented camp; staff members spend only about 2.5 waking hours each day with their cabin groups and about 5.5 hours a day in specialty areas working with motivated campers.

Since weekly days off begin after breakfast, cabin staff spend every morning of the summer in the cabin with the children. Nights off end at the 1:00am curfew, and all staff are expected to be in their living quarters at this time. Other cabin times include the half hour before lunch and dinner, and a mandatory rest period each day after lunch.
